Sir Robert Stdart Lorimar (1864-1929) was a prolific Scottish architect and furniture designer noted for his sensitive restorations of historic houses and castles, for the new work in Scots Baronial and Gothic Revival styles, and fo promotion of tyhe Arts and Crafts Movement.
In 1906 Robert Lorimar was first contacted by the 27th Laird opf Hunterston, Alymer Gould Hunrter-Weston.
Lorimer designed many changes to the Hunterston buildings betwen 1906 and then resigned more things in 1912 and 1926.
The fireplace in the Great Hall was an addition added in 1912 and is typical of the Robert Lorimar style.
